The Plot
In the 22nd century, a computer specialist and combat medic aboard an interstellar transport must work together to prevent its destruction, even though their actions to save themselves and the more than 250,000 colonists aboard could result in a galactic war and the annihilation of humanity.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS:Â It is the 22nd century. The ARK program is mankind’s first attempt to colonize distant star systems. Hewn from large asteroids, each ARK is an enormous galactic transport, a self-contained city run by computer and containing 400 primary crew members and 250,000 colonists, all hibernating in suspended cryo-sleep during their one-way journey to a new home.
Aboard the largest of these transports, ARK 17, A.I. specialist Stacy Waters is awoken during the voyage by a BioMechanical Humanoid (BMH) to perform what appears to be a routine computer repair. Yet when those repairs result in her injury, the computer must also awaken Calvin Asherton, an experienced combat medic, to save her. Shocked and dismayed at his unexpected presence aboard the transport, Asherton is reluctant to accept the reality of the one-way trip.
Unbeknownst to either of them, an elusive presence has been interfering with operations aboard the ARK. The computer’s increasingly erratic behavior threatens the entire crew as the BMH units stop at nothing to enforce its mission protocol.
As crew members go missing and colonist pods begin shutting down, Stacy must face the ultimate sacrifice as she and Calvin race against the clock to prevent an automatic system shutdown that will destroy the ARK and those still alive aboard. Yet, ironically, their determined struggle to save ARK 17 could trigger an interstellar conflict―with the fate of all humanity hanging in the balance.
